If I see a psychologist, does that mean I´m crazy?

No. The answer to the above question is “definitely not”. You are not crazy if you see a psychologist.

So, why do we see a psychologist?

We go to see a psychologist, among other reasons:

To help us organize our thoughts, manage our emotions, and learn to live better.

If we need resources to cope with daily difficulties and seek well-being.

When we have the feeling of not finding meaning in life, of being unable to put a name to our emotions, of not stopping to think that everything can go wrong.

If we feel stuck. When what happens interferes with our daily lives, or when we can’t find a way to solve our problems alone.

It doesn’t matter what leads us to therapy or a consultation. There is nothing negative about doing so. Asking for help does not mean acknowledging a failure or weakness. On the contrary, it is an act of maturity. It takes a lot of courage to take the plunge and allow a professional to help us find answers, lighten the load, and improve our quality of life.

Therapy is our space, the only time and place where we can be as vulnerable and open as we want, in a non-judgemental environment.

Think of it this way: when we have physical pain and we cannot solve it with a painkiller, we do not hesitate to see a doctor.  In the same way that it makes no sense to endure physical pain, it also makes no sense to endure emotional pain.

If nothing we have tried has worked, maybe it’s time to switch and ask for a consultation.

Even thought we may not feel it like it at times, we all have a power of our own to work through challenging circumstances, heal and thrive.

Let’s take heart and make the decision!
